    I have had the opportunity recently to evaluate a revolutionary caries detection device, SOPROLIFE from ACTEON. Like the Midwest Caries I.D. from DENTSPLY Professional and the KaVo DIAGNOdent, the SOPROLIFE system relies on fluorescence of demineralized tooth structure to determine areas of concern. However, it is important to point out that the presence of fluorescence does not quantify the amount of decalcification and cannot be relied on to “show you what to do.”

    Towards Prevention and Minimally Invasive Treatment

    Hygienists often experience times in their careers of boredom or burn out. When I experience them I challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. My most recent addition is looking into some new technology and products. Remineralization products really excite me, especially as the dental profession is moving from the drill-and-fill model to the prevention model.
